In some of our previous posts, we've covered a number of note-worthy Danish visual artists. Today, we'll focus on a Danish fashion designer who understands a woman's body like no other – Malene Birger.

Malene Birger studied and earned her degree at the Danish Design school in Copenhagen. She first worked as a fashion designer at Jackpot by Carli Gry, and she next became the head designer for women's clothing at Marc O'Polo in Stockholm. She moved on and established her business, Day Birger et Mikkelsen, for which she won the Danish Design Award. Her hard work, perseverance, and artistry continued to earn her awards. She now has, among the numerous awards under her belt, two Danish Design Awards, “Scanorama” – a Scandinavian design award, and the 2009 Danish Fashion Award for “Best Danish Designer”.

In 2003, she next established By Malene Birger, where she now holds the reins as Art directing consultant. She is the driving force behind the label, and continues to create women's fashion that is not only elegant, but also functional, practical, and stylish. The Duchess of Cambridge (a.k.a, Kate Middleton) also has a special spot in her maternity closet for Malene Birger's creations, and has been quite often spotted wearing beautiful pieces and garments created by the designer. Malene Birger's designs are not only seen in clothing, but also in signature jewelry pieces, shoes, and even home fragrances.

At present, Malene Birger also serves as an ambassador to UN Denmark. She is now also called “The Queen of Fashion in Copenhagen”, and her Copenhagen boutique has been hailed by the international trend magazine Wear Global as one of the world's best in design and décor.
