One of the best places to explore in Greenland is Narsaq located in the Kujalleq municipality in the southern area of the autonomous country in the Kingdom of Denmark. Also known as the “Plains” or the “Green Paradise of Greenland,” Narsaq is truly a haven for nature lovers.

A place for nature lovers

Here visitors can find verdant meadows meeting the edge of amazingly formed fjords, waters teeming with marine life and wooded areas with exotic wildlife. This charming small town with a population of about 1,600 sits on a flat area of the Tunulliarfik Fjord which has been a Norse settlement during the olden days.

It was founded in 1830 originally under the name “Nordproven” and gained a proper town status in 1959 when its population went over 600 and modern infrastructure developed. Today, Narsaq which still counts fishing and sheep farming as its main sources of income also rely on revenues brought about by tourism to the area. The town can be reached through the international airport in Narsarsuaq which is about 50 kilometers away.

Best way to get to Narsaq

Air Greenland has regular flights to South Greenland during the summer. From Narsarsuaq you can take a boat or a helicopter ride.

Narsaq is popular for its hiking tours in town and its surrounding environment. Fishing is also one of the many activities that can be done with the abundance of salmon and Arctic Char in the waters around the peninsula.

For that authentic Narsaq experience there is iceberg cruising where visitors take a boat ride along the Sermilik Fjord and marvel at the numerous icebergs.
