“Denmark’s Most Beautiful Festival” is an event celebrating music and the beauty of the town of Skanderborg in East Jutland. The longest running outdoor music festival and the second largest event in the country, the Skanderborg Festival, or Smukfest takes place in a beech forest just outside the town.

Here the crowd can sit on the grass and enjoy the beautiful surroundings as they listen to music performed by top Danish and international performers. When it started, it was only held for one day during the summer but the event became so big that it was extended for days. This year, the festival will take place on August 8 to 12. What’s particularly good about the music festival is that it features a wide range of musical genres, from rock, pop, heavy metal, hip-hop, folk, indie, blues to electronic.

When it was first held in 1980, there were only seven bands and had only about 600 people in attendance. In 1989, the music festival included performances from the Aarhus Symphony Orchestra for the first time and was well received by the crowds. Since then it has become a tradition to close the festival with a classical performance. Today, the Smukfest draws in crowds of about 40-45,000 people with a crew of about 8,500 workers.

This year’s headliners include international artists such as Bryan Adams, Backstreet Boys, Fallulah, Uriah Heep, BLUR, The Blues Overdrive, The Corrs and many more. Well-known Danish performers include Malk de Koijn, Stand Up for Skanderborg, A Friend in London, Alphabeat and Boho Dancer. There will be a total of about 108 performers occupying five stages for five nights of the festival.
