The reason why you'll want to visit Tivoli is that it served as the inspiration for Disney's theme parks. There are fabulously lit castles, rides, gardens, tons of places to eat, and an elegant concert hall. During the summer there are free concerts on Friday nights. During the winter, the Holiday lights are spectacular.

2. Explore Hamlet's Castle

A visit to Denmark provides you with your only opportunity to to see what life was really like for Prince Hamlet. The Kronborg Castle was the setting for Shakespeare's famous tragedy. This castle was first built in 1420. It had to be rebuilt after it burned down, but it's always been in the same place. In 2000, it became a UNESCO World Heritage site.

3. Things to do in Denmark, visit the Town of Christiana

Christiana is known as a “freetown,” which means it is self-governed by its own laws, not the laws of Copenhagen. Authorities usually turn the other cheek to the town's illegal marijuana trade. The neighborhood has been controversial since its creation in 1971, when hippies began squatting on an old military barracks. The architecture is interesting, since many residents built their homes themselves. About 1,000 people live there today, and 500,000 come to visit every year.

4. Climb The Round Tower

The Round Tower in Copenhagen is one of the most unique pieces of architecture you'll encounter. Inside there is a wide, spiral ramp that goes all the way up to the top. Once on top, you can get a good view of Copenhagen, and you can also look through the glass floor to see the core of the tower.

The bridge starts off as a tunnel on the east coast of Denmark, right next to Copenhagen airport. The tunnel emerges at the artificial island of Peberholm, and the bridge then spans the rest of the way to Sweden.

Wadden Sea National Park is the location of the world's largest unbroken system of intertidal sands and mudflats. It's a fabulous place to see wildlife. When the tide goes out, you'll see tons of critters on the exposed sea bed. About 12 million migratory birds pass through the area every year, and the sand dunes are home to colonies of seals during their breeding season.

Another great site for seeing wildlife is Dyrehaven, or the Deer Park. There aren't many places where you can enjoy a picnic while deer are grazing only 10 feet away from you. In addition to picnicking, you can take a walk through the woods, ride bikes, ride on horseback, or hop in a horse-drawn carriage.

Visiting the white cliffs on the island of Møn is one of the best things to do in Denmark. The cliffs stretch about four miles along the coast, and some of them are 120 feet tall. The cliffs are white because they are made from the shells of millions of tiny ocean creatures that lived on the seabed 70 million years ago. The water off the coast is so blue, you might think you're in the Caribbean.
